Meghan O'Reiley is the most mysterious and sought-after citizen in Pig Eye Gulch. Yet no one befriends or even fully trusts the beautiful young woman. They seek her out in times of trouble--to heal their sick children or soothe their own ailments--but she is otherwise regarded with superstition and unease. Since her grandmother died, Meghan has carried on, finding solace and peace in the cultivation of the wild herbs she uses to create her healing medicines.

When Conner Hendrickson needs help for his sweet baby daughter Bonnie, Meghan's formerly solitary life is suddenly full of spark and zest. She's wary of getting too close as she knows that a life with Conner cannot be hers. He comes from a life of privilege, having grown up in London's high society. Conner is the owner of the Sapphire Yogo mine and employs most of the citizens of Pig Eye Gulch, and Meghan knows that his aspirations will take him far beyond her rough-hewn Montana mining town. But try as she might, Meghan's love for both Conner and Bonnie deepens each day as she nears the precipice of losing them both.

Pretty sappy. There's no character development. It's so simplistic I think even tweens would find this boring. There are some interesting characters here and an interesting premise, but there's no conflict to make it an interesting story.

Sapphire Blue edition by DeAnn Smallwood Romance eBooks Reviews

In a mining town,a baby is found, taken in and loved by the town's herbal healing woman. As she grows and learns the gift of healing, going on to formal school and returns home to follow in her granny s footsteps, friendship and love find her. Totally wonderful, although predictable story. It was interesting to read about the natural roots, grasses and ointments used by local healers during that era of our country's development. A good clean love story with no hint of a PG or R rating. Enjoy!
I loved this book. It had romance and the characters were well developed. I don't want to give away to much of the story . This story is worth your time. I will read more from this author.
This story had promise, but its execution left a little to be desired. It was very Brady Bunch-esque, everyone was so nice and there was no conflict. The whole story seemed rushed, like it took place over a couple of weeks and more attention should have been paid to the heroine's reasons for not wanting to get together with Connor. Meghan seemed like she would have been a really strong woman, so the G-rating 'swearing' and the 'only thinking kind thoughts' about everyone just didn't work for the type of world she was living in, especially as a single woman doing what people saw as a man's job.
SAPPHIRE BLUE ISN'T MY USUAL MYSTERY/SUSPENSE BOOK I LIKE TO READ BUT I COULDN'T PUT THIS DOWN ONCE I STARTED. THE CHARACTERS TAKE A HOLD OF YOUR HEART. THE STORY FOLLOWS A YOUNG WOMAN IN A MONTANA MINING CAMP WHO WAS RAISED BY HER "GRANNY" TO BE A HEALER WITH HERBS AND SALVES. HER BRAVERY , CARE, GOODNESS AND SHEER COURAGE ALLOWS HER TO SURVIVE AND OVERCOME THE HARDSHIPS THAT PRE-TURN OF THE CENTURY LIFE COVERED. AMAZING BOOK. IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT YOUR OWN LIFE. NANCY KINDER
I chose to read this book because, it has the character was a woman healer. She used the earth bounty to use what God gave us. To use use for the purpose to heal with. The story line was as woman meets man. They fall in love, but woman feels inferior. Turns MAN down. However in between there is another part that draws you in. The writer gives you a very vivid mind's eye picture of the area of everything that is happening. So that as you read you can see and feel what each character is seeing and thinking. It isn't a master piece, but it is a good read. THANK goodness that she didn't use the word patted .
I chose this book because it tells of using natural herbs in the treatment of sickness and healing in a time when rural areas didn't have the availability of doctors, clinics, or hospitals. There is a love relationship that was held at afar due to previous love, marriage. and a family was began with a hidden agenda, that left a broken heart and a shattered family. An abandon baby girl is left on the woman healers porch, who gladly took the baby into her life raising her with not only love, but teaching her healing methods. The girl grew into a beautiful young woman who had firey red hair and Sapphire Blue eyes in a mining town where gold and sapphire stones is the heart and livelyhood of the small town, owned by the man who would be healed by the town's healer. A mining accident brought about the truths and the healing not only of the growing mining town's needs, but a love committed without prejudice.BB
Meghan O'Reiley is a red-headed backwoods healer outside the mining town of Pig Eye Gulch. An orphan left on the doorstep of the local herbalist as an infant, Meghan was taught her healing powers by "Granny," who raised her as her daughter. Granny sent Meghan to a finishing school, so she would know how to read, write and behave in society. During her time at the finishing school, Granny passed on, and Meghan returns to the backwoods cabin to carry on Granny's healing ways. She encountrs a man, Conner Hendrikson raising his infant daughter, Bonnie, under harsh conditions in a backwoods cabin. She assumes the man is a miner who must leave his daughter during the day to work in the mines. This is, of course, not the case, but sets the stage for their growing friendship and subsequent love story.

The writing is good, but it is a bit slow, and some tidbits that would clarify are omitted. The reader is aware of the setting, early autumn, but not the time line, leaving the reader a bit confused. When was the baby, Bonnie, born? When did the baby's mother leave or die? When does the story actually take place? Since there is no mention of modern conveniences other than Mason jars, we're left to assume it takes place in the late 1800's Montana, but I'm still guessing about this. Although some things are omitted from the story, there are some parts to the story that are anticipated. This is not the best romance I've ever read, but it is a good read with no big surprises. It is enjoyable to read about the characters with time specific references, such as the root cellar, or the drills used in the mining process.
Pretty sappy. There's no character development. It's so simplistic I think even tweens would find this boring. There are some interesting characters here and an interesting premise, but there's no conflict to make it an interesting story.
