The baby has heard and seen the nursery rhymes with pictures, hopefully from the time he/she can sit up and lean back on your lap. Now the baby is two or maybe three years old and has a chance to see how to translate this rhyme into words. The pictures in this book draw the little one to the words that go with it, through a special way that Wendy (who is a kindergarten teacher) has drawn them. I highly recommend this book because children are much smarter than anyone gives them credit for. They are learning all of the time. This is a wonderful bedtime story as the poems are the right length to hold the attention of children. The colors are calming and the graphics are not overwhelming. Just right to get those little ones off to sleep.
Traditional nursery rhymes with exciting colors and illustrations to keep the attention of little kids. I actually know the real words to familiar rhymes I thought I knew before now!
Wendy has created a lovely book that is sure to become a favorite for moms and dads of preschoolers. Starting with some of your favorite rhymes, this former teacher has crafted a reading experience that uses different colors, sizes, and fonts so that your young reader will learn to recognize the letters no matter how they are presented. Using both the left and right sides of the brain, reading this book will exercise young minds. Highly recommended.
This is a super fun book. I have three little boys and am so glad to have a book that isn't all baby animals and butterflies that still displays the traditional nursery rhymes. My 5-year-old loves The Cow Jumped Over the Moon page and when he was reading it said, "I want to draw a cow jumping the moon!" I love that it provides a chance for the kids to hear or read the words, but the images can be uniquely theirs, stimulating their imaginations. And the colors...love, love, love.
Also, while I didn't think about it, the previous reviewer points out that kids will see the letters in different fonts, allowing letter recognition, which is super helpful for their pre-reading stimulation.
